API ADMISSION POLICY

  • Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. In some cases, this may mean that certain courses or housing options may fill prior to the official application deadline. Late applications will be considered on a space-available basis and incur a $180 late application fee.
  • The minimum G.P.A. for API programs is generally 2.75, unless otherwise noted on the program page. Students who apply with a low G.P.A. will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Preference will be given to those students who have an upward trend in their G.P.A., demonstrate considerable dedication to studying the language of the host country, or whose G.P.A. was negatively affected by one or two particularly difficult courses. All applicants with low G.P.A.s are required to submit two letters of recommendation and a statement of explanation.

    APPLICATION POLICIES

API program applications are accepted on a rolling admission basis. Late applications are accepted if there is still space available. There is a $180 late fee added to the program fee.

API advises students to APPLY EARLY. API also urges all students to discuss the following payment policies with their home university before applying to study abroad. In certain instances, a student’s home university may assume some or all of the program fees, including the application deposit and/or the confirmation payment.

    WHEN APPLYING

A $150 deposit must accompany an application. The $150 application deposit is applied to the cost of the program and is not an additional fee. The $150 deposit is refundable only if a student is not accepted into the API program after all application components have been submitted or the program is cancelled.

    AFTER ACCEPTANCE

Students receive a letter of acceptance, a letter for visa application (if applicable) and several forms, which must be completed and returned by the specified payment deadline for their program. Students also need to send passport-sized photos by this deadline.

WITHIN TEN DAYS AFTER ACCEPTANCE NOTIFICATION

A non-refundable $400 confirmation payment is due within ten business days after acceptance notification. The $400 confirmation payment will be applied to the cost of the program and is not an additional fee.

    BY PAYMENT DEADLINE

The balance of the program fee is due by the payment deadline. A $250 security deposit is due on the final payment deadline, which is separate from the total program fee and is REFUNDABLE three months after the student returns home, less any damages or unpaid expenses.

    PAYMENT METHODS

    • Checks, credit cards or money orders accepted.
    • All financial aid is accepted. API will work with universities to sign consortium agreements when necessary.
    • Extended payment plans are available. Call the API office to arrange an individual payment plan.

    CANCELLATION POLICY

  • Program cancellations and requests for refunds must be made in writing.
  • The $150 application deposit is refundable only if the student is not accepted into the API program or the program is cancelled. The application deposit is not refundable if the student fails to submit all of the necessary application components.
  • The confirmation payment is not refundable for any reason unless the program is canclled by API.
  • Refunds and cost liability are determined based on the date which written cancellation notice is received from the student.
WITHDRAWAL 61 OR MORE DAYS PRIOR TO THE PROGRAM START DATE: The student is responsible for the application and confirmation payment.
WITHDRAWAL 1-60 PRIOR TO THE PROGRAM START DATE: The student is responsible for 50% of the program fee plus the application deposit and confirmation deposit.
WITHDRAWAL ON THE PROGRAM START DATE OR AFTER THE PROGRAM HAS BEGUN: The student is responsible for 100% of the program cost.
  • No refund will be given if student is removed from a program as a result of a violation of API’s Study Abroad Agreement, which is included in the acceptance packet. Also, no housing refunds will be granted if students are removed from housing due to failure to abide by housing regulations.
  • Students are responsible for program fees according to the above schedule. Should a student withdraw within the time frame listed above, having not paid the due portion of the program fee, they will be invoiced for the portion due and held responsible for paying that amount. If a student is negligent in this agreement, legal action may be taken.

    POST ACCEPTANCE
